Rev Chris Humrichouse – Deacon

Tell us about your family:

I have been married to my husband Greg for almost 25 years. We have two beautiful daughters: Jill, 21, is a senior at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio and Jennifer, 19, is a sophomore at the University of Iowa.

What do you do at SUMC?

My position at SUMC is Minister of Discipleship, which means I get to do a little bit of everything! I work with the Congregational Care committee and do visitation and pastoral care. I am responsible for small groups, Christian education, and spiritual formation for all ages.  This includes Sunday School, study groups,  fellowship groups, Club JAM and more.  I help lead worship and I preach one Sunday a month.  I serve as chairperson of the District Stewardship Team for the East Central District,  and I chair the Safe Sanctuaries Task Force for our Annual Conference.  I am a member of the District Council on Ministries and the Board of Ordained Ministry at the conference level.

What’s your favorite restaurant?

I love all kinds of food and am usually content with any restaurant choice, but …. I am an Iowa girl at heart, so give me a juicy steak (or Iowa chop) and a big baked potato and I am very happy!

What’s on your Ipod?

I also love all sorts of music from Yo-Yo Ma to blues to oldies, but Bruce Springsteen tops my list.

What’s on your bookshelf?

I just finished Love God, Heal Earth and am currently working on Greenhouses of Hope and Bullying:  A Spiritual Crisis.

What do you do in your free time?

Reading (mostly mysteries), music, gardening, and hanging out with family are tops on my list!

Is there something you’d like to share that many people may not know about you, your position, or your family?

I am a diehard Cubs fan, and despite all evidence to the contrary, I refuse to give up!
